THE STORY OF
WILLOW CREEK
WILLOW CREEK
The town of Willow Creek was founded by five families; the Grants, Lawsons, Bishops, McKinleys, and Whitmores. It was a beautiful little place, and when trying to decide on a name it was actually Franklin McKinley’s wife, Lillian, who came up with the name Willow Creek due to the beautiful willow trees that grew along the rivers in the area.
These families who all came together were outcasts, driven away from their homes due to secrets they all kept from one another. Jonathan Grant was a descendant of a demon and had a darkness within them. Thomas Lawson had the ability to make people die horribly bloody deaths, and could kill with a touch. Zachariah Bishop was a witch whose family descended from Salem. Franklin McKinley had the ability to set things aflame with just their mind. Jacob Whitmore was from a long line of werewolves. Each of them had their secret, and for good reason as that secret was what destroyed each of their lives. Each of them had their roles to play in town with Jonathan as the mayor, Thomas as the sheriff, Zachariah as the doctor, Franklin as the priest, and Jacob was a farmer. It seemed everything was going well and Willow Creek’s future looked bright.
However, when a coven of witches came to their town it all changed. At first they thought it was just a group of lost individuals, looking to make their place in this world as they did. They were led by a woman named Myra Norwood. It was definitely a shock, I mean we’re talking about the 1800’s here. A woman leading a group of men and women? It wasn’t common. The founding families allowed them to stay and offered them refuge and a chance to help them build a community for them all, a mistake they’d all soon realize.
The textbooks say there was a horrible outbreak of scarlet fever that claimed multiple lives and then a fire that swept through the town when it was first being built. That of course is just a cover up for the things that really happened back in the 1800’s. The coven had begun to use the town’s people as sacrifices for dark magic, they summoned demons, and brought great misfortune to the town. In 1858 the coven kidnapped multiple children from all of the founding families and brutally murdered them in the local church. When it finally came out who the strangers were, what they were, the founders were angry. They had to make them pay. Working together, they rounded up all of the witches and took them to the sea. They believed if they drowned them in their rivers that the town would forever be cursed. So, chaining up each of the witches they sailed out onto dark waters and tossed them overboard.
The founders changed after losing their families, their own children. They vowed to keep the town safe from anything supernatural that threatened their home. Thomas and Franklin told the other founders of their gifts, and Jacob revealed his curse of turning into a monster during the full moon. They all began to study the supernatural, learning all they could and each keeping their own journals which their families would pass down through the generations. The Bishops were eventually revealed to also be witches, and it caused a bit of a divide between them and the other founding families. They were distrusted.
At the start of 1876, a man named Jonathan Bradshaw had taken his wife and two daughters out to a strange stone and murdered them. He then laid them around the rock in order to create a pentagram. The founders believed he was trying to summon the devil, much like they assumed the coven before had done and he was executed by them on February 8th, 1876. It is unknown what happened to the man’s body after he was executed, as there are no records of his burial.
The families would continue to go on through the years, generation after generation, learning of the supernatural and how to keep the town safe. They each had personalized journals that depicted different things and they were trained to fight witches, werewolves, and vampires. Nowadays not all of the family members are brought in to join the council and many don’t know the supernatural actually exists. The member who does represent their family on the council however are typically well versed in the true history of Willow Creek and everything they could be taught about the existence of psychics, witches, vampires, werewolves, and spirits.
Founding family members are allowed to be made, when a new family member is created they will be added below.
