Ability Name: Absent Energy Manipulation

General Description: At first this ability seems like the user is manipulating simple shadows and darkness, when in reality they can manipulate much more than that; being the absent of energy. Their shadows or darkness has no energy, meaning they could remove things like light, sound, and heat from it. Eventually the user is able to even manipulate a spiritual and mental type of darkness which allows them to manipulate psychic darkness, which allows them to cloud minds and suppress the memories of their targets. The user can force targets to face their inner evil or bring it out of someone.

They can also create, shape and manipulate darkness and shadows themselves. By itself, darkness is mostly used to cloud everything into total darkness, but by accessing a dimension of dark energy it can be channeled to a variety of effects, both as an absence of light and a solid substance.


D-Rank: The user can only manipulate shadows or darkness that their own shadow touches or that they're in. They can intensify them or cause them to move. They have excellent night vision, having the ability to see in low light conditions or even total darkness perfectly well.

DEMONIC FORM ABILITIES

Maxwell has black eyes when he goes into his demonic form.

Super Strength - The Cursed become supernaturally powerful, able to perform feats that most humans could not. They can match the strength of some vampires but not quite as strong as a werewolf.

Telekinesis - The Cursed is able to throw things with their mind or lift themselves or others into the air. They are about as strong as a level 2 Pusher.

Electromagnetic Interference - The Cursed is able to cause electrical interference to cause electronics to go haywire, lights to flicker, or clocks to stop.

Maxwell was born to Brandon and Janet Grant in the small town of Willow Creek. He grew up in a wealthy life style, as his father was a big political figure and his mother was a top notch lawyer. Maxwell always looked up to his older brother Tyson, idolizing him. The two were always extremely close, Tyson showing him the ropes when it came to everything. When he was about eight years old, their mom left them for another man and moved to New York City. It always hurt Maxwell and left him wondering why he wasn't good enough to keep his mom around, to make her love him more. Their father instilled a lot of the same values in both of the Grant brothers. They were a founding family, they had to upkeep the image. That meant Maxwell was forced to participate in town events and customs whether he wanted to or not. Eventually Brandon became the mayor of Willow Creek, and that just solidified it more.

As he grew older, Maxwell felt different than other kids at school. There was a still small voice that told him to do awful things. He didn't understand why he thought like that, and he didn't want to tell his father because he didn't want to risk him thinking he was a failure of a son. So, he just learned to ignore and fight against it. Definitely was easier sometimes over others. As Tyson grew older, Maxwell noticed he became a lot more... Twisted than normal. He was kind of a dick, but never with Max or his dad. Eventually he figured out that his brother had an inner darkness like him.

One person who helped keep Maxwell under control was his best friend Andy. He was the boy next door and the two became friends since when they were both seven years old. He'd do anything for him, considering him more like another brother than just a friend. Over the years Andy helped be Maxwell's voice of reason, and kept him from being consumed by darkness. He didn't like to open up to people, but somehow Andy could get him to. The Grant kept from letting anyone getting close to him in school, having acquaintances and friends but no one he'd really open up to.

After high school, Maxwell decided he wanted to become a police officer. While a dark side of him wanted to hurt people, to crush them, another side wanted to help them. He wanted to save lives. It all stems back to when he saved a woman from getting physically beaten in the parking lot of the local grocery store. Maxwell was only a teenager at the time, but he managed to take on a fully grown man and ended up knocking him unconscious and subduing him. The police officers that were called on the scene were impressed and told the kid he had a future as a cop. Ever since then, seeing those guys in their uniforms and loading the guy in the back of their car he knew what he was meant to do.

His father's health declined majorly over the years, after some major heart attacks. Brandon is diagnosed with heart failure, diabetes, Alzheimer's, among other things. The elderly man, who is in his early 70's is now bed ridden and Maxwell takes care of him. Tyson helps with costs, along with their father's own income but all of the doctor's, medicines, it all costs a lot so Maxwell got himself a job at a bar in Crawford city, located within the Apollyon Casino named Club Erebus.

He graduated college, receiving a bachelor's degree after 4 years. He then applied for the police academy in Crawford, it taking a few months to process and after he had to take written, physical, psychological and medical tests. After an interview with a high-ranking officer, he was accepted and enrolled in the police academy. He is undergoing a lot of physical training and building his physique and endurance, learning how to use guns, how to treat suspects and learning all the laws and various procedures.

Now he is balancing working as a bartender, attending the police academy, and taking care of his sick and elderly father.
