ABILITIES

Shapeshifting - A Shifter has the ability to change into an animal form at will. They gain whatever strength, speed, and other abilities that animal form may naturally have. Dalton is able to turn into a cross fox.



Accelerated Healing - A shifter heals faster than humans and animals do, taking about half the time to recover from an injury. Example: if a human would take 8 days to recover from a physical injury the shifter would recover from that same injury in only 4 days.

Partial Shapeshifting - A skill that takes a shapeshifter a lot of time and training to develop. They are able to partly shift into their animal form. This can include external and internal changes, like morphing the insides of their ears into their animal’s in order to enhance their hearing.

Magical Prowess - A shifter is able to naturally use magic and feel an affinity for the craft. They do not need to worship any God or Demon to use magic but if they do not use an outside source then they can easily exhaust themselves.

Clairvoyance - As supernatural creatures, Shifters can see and hear ghosts the same way Vampires, Werewolves, and other ghosts can.

WEAKNESSES

Magical Exertion - If a shifter uses too much of their own magical essence for power than they risk overexerting themselves. This can cause nose bleeds, unconsciousness, and even death.

Mortality - Shifters are mortal creatures and can be killed with any standard method.

Imprinting - Though not always a bad thing, imprinting can cause a shifter to lose themselves. While the feelings of unconditional love and fondness are good highs, the lows are extreme and could be too much for a shifter to handle.

Binding - Witches are able to use magic to control a shifter to do whatever they wish. This does not make the shifter unaware of being controlled and while some may be able to fight it slightly, there is no way to resist the witch’s control.

Many years ago, a young woman named Rosalie was impregnated by a young man out of wedlock. This was in the 1920's, and was not socially accepted. The father abandoned her and she was left with her parents, John and Anna Grant in order to take care of her baby. Her two brothers went on with their lives, while Rosalie always felt stuck. Eventually that baby would grow into a man by the name of Jackson and he would live a long and full life, having a few children of his own with a shapeshifter woman. The one that matters though, for this story, is Michael Grant. Like his father Jackson before him, Michael would fall in love with his town and take a seat on the council to represent the Grants as a founding family. He opened a mechanic shop right in Willow Creek, and ended up getting with a woman by the name of Bridgett Marshall. It was just a fling, really. Michael was in his mid-twenties, and he wasn't really looking to settle down so when Bridgett revealed she was pregnant... Well, he wasn't too happy about it. Not at first anyway, but once the baby boy was born he felt his whole world shift. The problem was, Bridgett was having an affair on her husband. The baby caused a lot of problems for her, but she went through with the pregnancy after being guilted about considering an abortion. Once Dalton was born, Bridgett pretty much just left the baby with Michael and took off.

Michael raised little Dalton in all the ways to be a strong man, and how to keep his shapeshifting abilities a secret. He wanted Dalton to grow up and take over the shop once Michael grew too old, but Dalton never wanted that. The young boy never knew what he wanted really. Growing up, he changed his opinion on what career he'd like a lot. That was until he hit puberty, and then all that was on his mind was sex. Knowing he had an affinity to magic and that some of his ancestors were witches, he also started to dabble with it. It was around this time that he really started to rebel and caused a lot of problems for his dad. He was a troublemaker, he got into fights, broke into places, stole, he just did about everything you'd expect from a rebellious teenager. He got into some very heavy arguments and fights with his father, with Michael having said some things he may not of meant but they really stuck with Dalton. One of those things being that not even his mother wanted him and ditched him there with Michael.

With his relationship with his father on the rocks, Dalton tried to hunt down his mother and spent months trying to find her. When he did however, all it did was hurt Dalton more. His mother had a life, with the man she cheated on with Michael. She had two kids, a boy and a girl and their life seemed perfect. They had a big house, and honestly it was pretty fancy. An inground pool and one of those really nice playsets in the backyard. It was the life Dalton never had, since his father struggled to keep both the business running, pay the bills, and put food on their plates. When Bridgett found out who he was, she didn't embrace him. She didn't say how much she missed him. She didn't introduce him to his siblings, or invite him in for something to eat or drink. All she did was told him he couldn't be there and shut the door in his face. His dad was right.

It was a miracle Dalton finished school, but once he did he ditched Willow Creek and moved off to live in Crawford City. He started using what he had to make money, which was his body and his gifts. He started escorting and stripping, which honestly felt like a dream job for him because of how much he loved sex. So, Dalton never thought on what career he wanted anymore, he honestly didn't think he could do anything more or that he even should since all his life he felt like nothing but a screw up. He eventually met a man named Silas Black and began to work for him while getting to stay in the Poseidon Hotel located right in the Apollyon Casino. Silas never treated him wrong, he didn't make Dalton hide his shapeshifting abilities or magic, and he acted like he wanted Dalton. Like he was worth wanting.
