A DEEPER LOOK
LIKES ❤ The beach/candles, and milkshakes - Reminds him of his mother, and of home, and it's something that makes him feel at home wherever he is ❤ Reading/romcoms - It's calming to him, and he'll take anything to achieve that; he won't admit to liking the romcoms though ❤ Smoking - A coping mechanism he picked up over the years | DISLIKES 🛇 Generally ignorant a-hats, backstabbers, liars - Has a bad history with them 🛇 Some airplanes, loud sounds without visible source; his PTSD is mostly managed but some things can set him off more easily than others 🛇 Baths - He hates them, showers are preferred but he's not a big fan of standing water, you can blame his cat side for that |
POSITIVE TRAITS ✓ Loyal and chivalrous - Roy is very dedicated to those he allows to be close to him, however rare that may be. Coming from a time when being gentlemanly and offering generally polite assistance was expected of a man, and he believes it may be decades old but hasn't lost its charm. ✓ Caring hopeless romantic - Roy is used to things being hard but that doesn't stop him from going above and beyond and bending over backwards for the ones he loves and cares about once that level of trust is earned. He doesn't like to admit it but Roy enjoys the simplest things and even sometimes the cheesiest romantic things, because of the fact that it's simple and comfortable. ✓ Determined and stubborn - When he has his mind set to something, that soldier mentality keeps him pushing for it, to get through to the other side with whatever it takes to do it. He doesn't like to give up if the can help it and he's definitely stubborn til the end. | NEGATIVE TRAITS ✗ Shorttempered and closed off - Admittedly, Roy has a bit of a strong temper. He tends to remain a quiet individual blending on the background but push comes to shove, and sometimes it doesn't take much, he is up in arms either to defend someone's honor or to kick a bitch in the ass. Roy doesn't often let people in, if at all. Over the years he's not had many people to count on and the ones he did have all were taken from him one way or another. He knows most people will die long before he does and he finds it easier to close himself off. ✗ Antisocial - At first the man may come off as a bit bitter and cold, depending on how a conversation or situation is going. He may put on a quiet, polite exterior most of the time but when he falls into the soldier mindset it turns to hardened gruffness almost to push people away. ✗ Stubborn willpower - It can be both a blessing and a curse; sometimes that stubbornness of his can be his very downfall, much like his temper, for the very reason that he doesn't like to give up and doesn't always follow orders. Sometimes its the reason he's on his own so often. |
SUPERNATURAL GIFTS
ABILITIES
Shapeshifting: A Shifter has the ability to change into an animal form at will. They gain whatever strength, speed, and other abilities that animal form may naturally have.
In Roy's case, he shifts into a black panther with Amber colored eyes and very faint patterning in his fur if you look closely enough.
Accelerated healing: Being a Shifter, Roy heals faster than humans and animals do, taking about half the time to recover from an injury. Example: if a human would take 8 days to recover from a physical injury the shifter would recover from that same injury in only 4 days.
Partial shapeshifting: A skill that takes a shapeshifter a lot of time and training to develop, Roy is able to partly shift into his animal form. This can include external and internal changes, like morphing the insides of his ears into his animal’s in order to enhance his hearing.
Magical prowess: A shifter is able to naturally use magic and feel an affinity for the craft. They do not need to worship any God or Demon to use magic but if they do not use an outside source then they can easily exhaust themselves. Roy doesn't often use this ability largely for the reasons listed above but also because of his own beliefs in which he doesn't believe it necessary to use all that often; however if a situation called for it, he might.
Clairvoyance: As supernatural creatures, Shifters can see and hear ghosts the same way Vampires, Werewolves, and other ghosts can.
WEAKNESSES
Magical exertion: Like any Shifter, if Roy uses too much of his own magical essence for power than he runs the of risk overexerting himself. This can cause nose bleeds, unconsciousness, and even death.
Mortality: Shifters are mortal creatures that can be killed with any standard method; however Roy is a special case. This is because he wears a ring that preserves and prolongs his aging.
Imprinting: Though not always a bad thing, imprinting can cause a shifter to lose themselves. While the feelings of unconditional love and fondness are good highs, the lows are extreme and could be too much for a shifter to handle.
Binding: Witches are able to use magic to control a shifter to do whatever they wish. This does not make the shifter unaware of being controlled and while some may be able to fight it slightly, there is no way to resist the witch’s control.
COUNTER MAGIC
Binding: There is magic that can be done in order to break one’s control over a shifter but it has to be done by another witch. This spell can be very finicky and a witch could accidentally hurt the shifter, so it’s advised for the witch to have as much practice and skill as possible.
Imprinting Reversal: There is very old magic that can be used to break a shifter from their witch, however it is not known by most. The hard part is the shifter themselves has to conduct the ritual and it can be explained feeling as if you’re “ripping out your own kidney.”

STORY SO FAR
Personality: A loner. He cares very deeply and can be very protective, he's certainly a fighter of a lover but the problem is he simply can't allow himself to let anyone in. Not again. He can't bear to let anyone suffer again because of him and because of that he hides beneath the soldier exterior, cold and quiet unless provoked, and on his own. He doesn't mind it really. But deep down? Part of him, though he won't admit it, just wants someone he can cling tight to and never let go. He wants someone to remind him he isn't alone...but he knows he neither deserves it nor can ever have that. So the bitter, old, rough shell that usually isn't very inviting is what he lives with.
Family & Friends: Marissa Jacobson (Mother, deceased), Robbert Jacobson (Father, Killed In Action), Amelia Cornwall-Abbot (Adoptive sister/nanny, deceased of natural causes); TBD
Backstory:
Leroy was born to Marissa and Robert Jacobson the 7th of March, in 1951. Following the second world war, things were far from settling down 'round the world but at least he was able to have a relatively normal childhood. Or at least as normal as his mother could provide. He was raised primarily by mother since his father, as the war in Vietnam had begun around the time Roy was 4 or 5, had enlisted to serve in the Marines. It was when little Leroy started showing signs of shifting capability, that Marissa--a shapeshifter herself--worked to help him learn about his abilities and how to control them. He'd always been her first priority, after all. And she'd be damned if anything happened to him; so yes, she was your average housewife that worked in a diner at nights to make ends meet, to the general public. But that didn't meanshe didn't know how to stand her ground and that was one thing she taught him.
Innevitably though there are shifts called in at inopportune times and shifts that run late, when you work in a small but popularr diner in a moderately sized town. Amelia Cornwall was the generous and lucky lady that Marissa happened upon one day, who offered to be his nanny in exchange for a safe home to stay in. Roy's mother didn't exactly agree with the customs of the time to begin with, so she had no problem letting the young black woman into her home welcomingly especially if she offered to take care of Roy while she was working. She became like a sister to the boy, truthfully, they even went to school together since she was going through highschool when Roy was in grade school. And for that assistance Marissa was grateful, if not more than happy to help out the girl through school even if it was a tight fit.
Even if her husband was essentially only there in the form of letters whenever they came, Marissa never stopped trying to be the best mother she could to the two children she'd been taking care of this for. But where his mother was tough and loving, Amelia was kind and patient as a saint practically inspite of the cruelty from people towards her skin color and her little adoptive family's beliefs and tolerances. Perhaps that was her downfall because the night of his prom, Roy's sister figure wound up in the hospital it seemed, having been a victim of hate crime that day, unfortunately including physical assault and rape. Skipping prom, he and his mother were quick to be there for her in the hospital room, and you can bet they fought tooth and nail for the best care they could manage for her.
Marissa may not have been able to stay do to her shift but poor Roy was there all through the night right by her side. He hardly left but to get a cup of water or coffee, maybe a smoke to calm his nerves. A visit from the attending nurse however, changed his life forever. Being a young teenager innocent to the dangers of things like witches, when she told him she had a way to help him protect the girl and anyone he ever cared about, he believed her hook-line and sinker. It was then that he recieved a ring he would wear continuously for the forseeable future: the Sibylline Ring.
The condition was that the ring was all his, no take backs, no time limits, no payment. Or at least no payment beyond two very simple yet important things: he had to sign an oath sealed with his own blood, and as according to that oath never reveal it's truth to anyone nor speak of this very moment to anyone else. This ring is cursed, but of course, Roy was never made aware of this double-edgedblade so to speak. As far as he knows it's merely vital for him to keep it on or the effects will wear off.
After that Roy began to pitch in more around home, helping where and when he could and possibly more protective than ever. Somehow, things managed to go somewhat back to normal, you see because anytime anyone wanted to try anything? Leroy wasn't going to have any of it, and he would shut that down rather quick no matter what it cost him physically or otherwise. But it wasn't until his father was killed in action on the boy's 18th birthday that things changed drastically. For the second time in his life--or perhaps third, counting the day his father left Leroy and Marissa to go fight--he felt almost helpless. Wanting to do something and change it, feeling there's something to be done, yet not being able to do very much. It both hurt, and frustrated him.
Now more than ever he was determined to make a change. This war needed to end, and he was willing to help that. He enlisted himself in 1971, admittedly after a long conversation with both Amelia and his mother about this decision. Per their wishes, as if in some way it was safer, he became a Marine aviator rather than an officer like his father. Roy fought for 4 years, until the end of the war in 1975 with the shame that came with the US loss. He made it home in one piece for the most part and alive, and his little family was proud of him for daring to go out and making it back. Even while much of the population wouldn't see him that way. Discrimination was bound to follow not only him but even his mother and adoptive sister for years to come unfortunately, but then again it wasn't as if they weren't used to it.
Some years later, seeing Amelia had made a family of her own with a husband and kids and all, he was left with only his mother to keep him company at least for some time...until her sudden death one day while out bringing groceries home for dinner. By the time Roy came home from his shift at the diner it was far too late and now he was pretty well truly alone. The killer was never caught and to this day he doesn't know who it was thattook his mother but ever since he has cut ties with his old life, making a new one by searching even as the years go on for his killer. He prefers it alone, it seems, it's safer that way, then he can never lose anyone again. He seems to have settled in Willow Creek for now, but who knows when he'll take off again because he never seems to like staying in one place too long.
Other info:
- Roy drives a 1967 Ford F-100 Ranger that he's had since before going to eat and upkeeps as regularly as he can. It's part of the reason he doesn't drive too far when he travels to change locations, to help keep it in good condition
- Roy still has his old Marine aviator gear and his old uniforms somewhere, everywhere he goes, including his fighter pilot helmet
