STORY SO FAR
Charlotte Darcy was born on September 4th, 1992 in Willow Creek. She's the younger daughter of James and Marcy Darcy, two years younger than her brother Edward. Her parents moved to America from their native England three years before she was born, so she grew up with that British heritage, visiting her grandparents back in Cambridge at least once per year up until they died in a car accident when she was 16.
She had a very normal upbringing, her father being a doctor and her mother dedicating herself to her kids, Charlie never had many troubles with anything. She wasn't the most popular kid in school, but had her friends and was never considered an outcast, despite of how she could be sometimes a little closed off due to her shyness at a young age. And maybe it was the fact that she admired her grandparents so much, or the way her parents raised them, but the girl was always a little old school in her ways, even a little naïve some would say, which made it hard for her to build deep, meaningful relationships other than her close friends. Or at least that's how it was up until high school.
When she started freshmen year, Charlotte met who was going to be her first boyfriend. He was a good guy, who ended up turning into more of a best friend than a real boyfriend; but he introduced her to his friends, helped her open up a little more with other people and that's how Charlie finally started being more social. From then on, she had no trouble meeting people, going to parties, even flirting around sometimes when she had the courage. But her main characteristics were always a very analytical person, a perfectionist of sorts who would never trust someone right off the bat. She expected people to be as honest as she was, though, and that could get the best of her, because that is not always the case.
Even if she wasn't the first of her class, Charlotte was considered a very intelligent student by both her teachers and classmates, maybe even a little bit of an overachiever. Her brother had always been the best at everything he tried, and so she felt like by not trying her best, she would be living in his shadow. But Eddie had moved on to med school, moving to New York when he got into Columbia; and that meant that, now that one of the kids had followed into James' steps? She was free to do as she wanted. And so she did. Contrary to what everyone would have expected, Charlie decided to get a a degree in criminal justice degree so she could become an FBI Agent in the future. She started training too, learning about guns and other weapons, wanting to do something different, to break the mold when it comes to her traditional family without necessarily going too far: she was still studying, still following the rules, but trying to find her own path. She wanted to be a woman of action instead.
And it was while she going through her first year of college that she met Liam. They hit it off right after they met, he was a fun, outgoing, smart and good looking man and Charlie was immediately swooning after they went on their first date. They started a long term relationship that lasted two years, but as time went by, things got strange. With a bit of help coming from her parents and her part time job, Charlotte had been renting an apartment of her own by then, and Liam was pretty much living with her. The change in their dynamic, now that they were living in the same apartment, started raising red flags: he would come home late, lie to her about where he'd been and started acting shady, keeping secrets, talking to people she didn't know.
And then it happened: one day, Charlie got home late from work and found Liam with another woman. It was a pretty redhead that she had never seen before, and when she confronted her boyfriend it got a little violent. They started yelling at each other and it got to the point where she ended up pushing him harshly against the wall. And he growled at her in return. It was a full moon outside, and the man started changing right in front of her. The sound of bone cracking and intense screaming reached Charlotte's ears as she panicked, looking at Liam frozen in place until he looked up and instead of teeth, he had fangs; his entire body started changing into something inhuman; luckily, Charlotte managed to run out of the apartment, immediately going to the police. That night, the local Police Station got several reports of growling, howling and furniture being thrown around coming from Charlie's apartment while she was there with them, trying to get them to help. And when she went back there the next day? The place was trashed and Liam was gone. She went to the authorities again, tried getting help from the cops but only got treated as if she was crazy, without proof, there was nothing they could do.
Not too long after, someone knocked at her door. Two women came in asking about what she'd seen, focusing on details that she hadn't been asked about like how the beast had looked like; they claimed to be experts dealing with cases that were not so traditional, the ones the police couldn't manage. She tried to get them to tell her who exactly they were, but as much as she cooperated with the information, she got nothing and they left before any of her questions got much of an answer. At least, she now knew she wasn't crazy.
Unable to simply let go of what had happened, scared that Liam would come back to finish the job, Charlotte managed to find one of the women and begged for her to tell her what was going on, what were those things. She didn't get a full explanation, but was told that this 'Agency' was the government's solution to the cases that didn't entirely respond to what one would call 'regular', or even... normal. Things that people didn't understand and that needed to stay off the radar. It wasn't a full answer and the casual mention of the government was clearly not everything there was to it, but finally, after asking many times, Charlie managed to land an interview and go through the process of joining this organization. She decided to change her career aspirations, and instead of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, her goal now was to become an agent for the Supernatural Intel Agency, or SIA.
Learning about the kind of things that lurked in the dark, without anyone knowing, she realized that this way, she could save more people—one thing is to deal with human murderers, but... supernatural? What she had seen, it haunted her. Before finally getting a chance to join the SIA, she had gotten back to old habits: drinking too much, once again becoming an emotionally closed off person, not socializing with people anymore. Charlie needed to understand, to learn and be able to deal with the situation the best way she could: taking control over it. Her grandfather always used to say: "when your back is against the wall, break the goddamn thing down." And so she did.
Charlotte ended up joining the SIA, becoming an agent there instead of the FBI because she believed, after what she'd seen, that the supernatural creatures were a danger to humanity, and someone had to take care of it. She had always wanted to be a part of something that would make her worthwhile, in a way, and found it with the Agency, where she studied and trained as much as she could, trying to be ready for whatever she'd have to face down the road, trying to become stronger, tougher and smarter so nothing like that would ever happen to her, or anyone, again if she could help it.
