SHAPESHIFTERS
Shapeshifters are beings that were born of magic casted by a witch many, many years ago. A shapeshifter has the ability to turn into one animal within the animal kingdom. This animal never changes. When in that form, they are able to use the abilities that animal has and more talented shifters are able to partially change and use their gifts without fully changing. It’s unknown what determines the creature a shifter will be able to turn into but it is speculated it has something to do with their soul and some cultures believe it’s the physical manifestation of their spiritual animal.
Unlike most supernatural entities, a shifter must be born as one and there are no known methods to turn someone into it otherwise. Being made of magic, they are basically natural witches and are capable of doing magic on their own. Unlike actual natural witches, they do not have a power that they can use without the use of rituals and spellwork aside from their shifting abilities. However, every strength has a weakness. Since they are magical entities, witches have been known to use spells in order to control and bind them. Though this is incredibly complicated and strong magic.
Shifters feel a natural connection to witches and it’s possible for them to imprint on one. This is not controlled by either the witch or shifter, and once it happens they become unconditionally bound to them for life. This is a one sided connection, however. Which means that while a shifter may feel a need to protect and love a witch, it may be an unrequited love. Imprinting can develop as a familial or romantic love. When imprinted on a witch, a shifter cannot see their faults and will do whatever the witch wants them to. This can be extreme in most cases, if a witch wants them to do something that goes against the shifter’s morals. They may struggle with it, but they won’t be able to fight the need to satisfy their witch. When a shifter’s witch dies, it causes the shifter so much pain that it almost physically harms/ills them. Many suffer great depression after which, and though rare a shifter can survive it. A shifter will only have one witch they will imprint on in their life. In very rare cases a witch may be imprinted on by multiple shifters but this is close to never.
Most shifters have a typical animal form, but it’s possible for a shifter to be anything within the animal kingdom. The common forms are those of dogs, cats, wolves, foxes, ferrets, rabbits, horses, birds, and snakes. Anything not in those categories are “uncommon” and must be reserved.
Shapeshifting - A Shifter has the ability to change into an animal form at will. They gain whatever strength, speed, and other abilities that animal form may naturally have.
Accelerated Healing - A shifter heals faster than humans and animals do, taking about half the time to recover from an injury. Example: if a human would take 8 days to recover from a physical injury the shifter would recover from that same injury in only 4 days.
Partial Shapeshifting - A skill that takes a shapeshifter a lot of time and training to develop. They are able to partly shift into their animal form. This can include external and internal changes, like morphing the insides of their ears into their animal’s in order to enhance their hearing.
Magical Prowess - A shifter is able to naturally use magic and feel an affinity for the craft. They do not need to worship any God or Demon to use magic but if they do not use an outside source then they can easily exhaust themselves.
Clairvoyance - As supernatural creatures, Shifters can see and hear ghosts the same way Vampires, Werewolves, and other ghosts can.
Magical Exertion - If a shifter uses too much of their own magical essence for power than they risk overexerting themselves. This can cause nose bleeds, unconsciousness, and even death.
Mortality - Shifters are mortal creatures and can be killed with any standard method.
Imprinting - Though not always a bad thing, imprinting can cause a shifter to lose themselves. While the feelings of unconditional love and fondness are good highs, the lows are extreme and could be too much for a shifter to handle.
Binding - Witches are able to use magic to control a shifter to do whatever they wish. This does not make the shifter unaware of being controlled and while some may be able to fight it slightly, there is no way to resist the witch’s control.
Binding - There is magic that can be done in order to break one’s control over a shifter but it has to be done by another witch. This spell can be very finicky and a witch could accidentally hurt the shifter, so it’s advised for the witch to have as much practice and skill as possible.
Imprinting Reversal - There is very old magic that can be used to break a shifter from their witch, however it is not known by most. The hard part is the shifter themselves has to conduct the ritual and it can be explained feeling as if you’re “ripping out your own kidney.”
